: I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Discoid Lupus. I was in tears, and not because I didn't know anything about it. My mother was diagnosed with the disease when I was two years old and told she had only 6 months left to live. Back in 1972 the disease was to new for an accuaracy. She lived until she was 53. She had tried experimental drugs, Lukeran, Plaquenil, topical steroids, steroid shots when her joints wore out. Her immune system had weakened to the point that the Lukeran gave her Lukemia which caused her death.
: Fortunately for me we shared the same doctors and medical treatment is much better. My doctor told me to reduce stress, exercise regulary, cut-back on caffeine (especially pop) and that I should live a longer, healthier life. If you are a smoker - stop.
: Although they say it isn't hereditary, my mother, and three aunts (her sisters) had this also. I occasionally have flare ups on my cheeks - especially when I am feeling stressed. The topical steroids work great. I have a stronger one for the flare ups, and a milder one for daily use. I tend to put it on in the evening because it is difficult to have it on during the say and at work. I feel sluggish on some days and occasionally moody. I either take a nap or baby myself with a hot bath and a good book.
: I occasionally do some research on the internet to see if there is anything new that I may need to know, but so far not much luck. There is a vitamin that I take that helps build up your immune system: Beta Glucan. You can pick this up at a General Nutional Center. It does work. Last year I couldn't shake a cold no matter what I tried, every other month I would either have a yeast infection or bacteria vaginosis. Since taking this vitamin, I do not get these infections and if I catch a cold, it is gone in a few days instead of 1 or 2 months.
: I am available if you need an e-mail buddy.
