Hepatitis c is not a death sentence.
your son must not drink alcohol AT ALL or smoke anything. Both are linked to progression of disease.
There ae treatments, but they work less than 50% of the time. He needs to see a specialist (gastroenterologist) have a biopsy and an evaluation for treatment.
Most people die with hepatitis C and not of it, particularly if detected early when lifestyle choices have the most impact.
